Night Guardian

Artist: Poteet Victory

Poteet Victory is a Choctaw/Cherokee, born and raised in Idabel, Oklahoma.  He joined the rodeo circuit riding horses and bulls at 15.  He posed for his mentor Harold Stevenson’s painting of Alexander the Great.  He established his t-shirt company, studied silk screening with Andy Warhol, where he attended the arts students league.  He is one of the most in demand, collectable, contemporary Native American artists in the world.  When he was honored by Representative Melody Blancet and the Oklahoma legislature, he visited the Judicial Center.  He was awestruck by the collection.  Sixteen year old Winston Kauger Scambler asked him if he didn’t think he should have a painting in the building. He agreed that he should, but with the assistance of Randel Shadid, the mission was accomplished.

Opposite the Night Guardian we enter the atrium to find our largest sculpture, Eagle by Patrick Riley.
